Hesarbelle Upma (Moong Dhal Upma)

This Upma is very nutritional, tasty and filling. It is very good for breakfast or can be eaten during snack time.

Ingredients:

2 medium Cup Moong Dhal
2 Tbsp Sunflower Oil
4 Pods Chopped Garlic
1 big Chopped Onion
1/4 Tsp Cumin Seeds
1/4 Tsp Mustard Seeds
1 Tsp Channa Dhal
1/2 Tsp Urad Dhal
4 Curry Leaves
Salt as per taste
1 small bowl Grated Coconut
1/2 small bowl chopped Coriander Leaves

Preparation:
  • Wash moong dhal well and soak it in water the previous night ( 6 hrs is also sufficient).
  • Remove water from the soaked dhal and grind it very coarse.
  • Steam this coarse paste in the idli stand just like the way rice idli is steamed.
  • Once dhal idli is cool, grind it again to Bansi rava consistency and keep it aside.
  • In a pan heat oil, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves and allow it to splatter.
  • Then add urad dhal, channa dhal saute till light brown and then add garlic fry little and finally add onion and fry till golden brown.
  • To this add coarsely powdered dhal, salt and fry for 2 minutes.
  • Finally garnish with coconut and coriander leaves.
