Chicken Masala / Varattuna Koli

Chicken cooked with onions , tomatoes and spices.This dish will have no gravy but enough masala to eat along with mixed rice or chapathis.At home the menu would normally be vegetable biryani,varattuna koli,brinjals and raita - Yummy!!

Ingredients:

1 lb chicken-medium pieces

3 large onions

2 large tomatoes.

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

2 cardamoms

2 cloves

2 pieces cinnamon

1 tsp chili powder

1 /4 tsp coriander powder

salt to taste

2 tbsps oil

2 tbsps chopped coriander/cilantro leaves for garnish



Preparation:

  • Heat oil.
  • Add the onions and whole spices with a bit of salt and sauté till translucent.
  • Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a few mins.
  • Add in the tomatoes, chili and coriander powder,mix well, cover and let it simmer till the tomato is cooked.
  • Add in the chicken, mix well so the masala coats the chicken,cover and cook on a medium heat till the chicken is done.
  • Serve garnished with coriander leaves.
