This South Indian dish goes very well with Idli/dosa/rice.


Ingredients:


1/2 Cup Thuvar Dhal
1 Tbsp Moong Dhal (pasi paruppu)
1/2 medium Onion diced
1 Tomato chopped
2 Green Chillies sliced
1/2 Tsp Tamarind paste
Few pinches Hing
1 Ridge Gourd (skin peeled & cut into big pieces)
1/4 Cup chopped Coriander / Cilantro leaves

Dry roast & grind to paste:

1 Tsp Chana Dhal(kadala paruppu)
1 Tsp Urad Dhal
2 Tsp Coriander Seeds
1 Red Chillies
Few Methi Seeds
2 Tsp grated Coconut

Seasonings:

1/4 Tsp Mustard Seeds
1/2 Tsp Urad Dhal
Few Curry Leaves


Preparation:

  • Pressure cook thuvar dhal & moong dhal with few drops oil & hing.
  • Heat oil in a pan,add seasonings.
  • When mustard splutters,add onion & green chillies.Fry for few minutes.
  • Add tomatoes,little salt & cook till soft.
  • Now add ridge gourd,puli paste,ground paste & 1/2 cup water.
  • Cover & cook in low flame till oil floats on top.
  • To this add the cooked dhal,salt & water.
  • Bring it to a boil & lower the heat & cook for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves & mix.

Tips:

Seasonings can added at the end.
Ridge gourd can be replaced with brinjal/okra/snake gourd/bottle gourd/green pepper.
