Urad dal and kidney beans soaked overnight and cooked in a simple gravy rich in flavor. To top it off….this dish has “butter” and “fresh cream”! Truly heavenly!!

Ingredients:

1 /2 cup urad dal (whole with skin)

a handful – kidney beans / rajma

1 tsp – fresh ginger minced

2 tsps – fresh garlic minced

1 – onion chopped

2 - tomatoes chopped

1 tsp garam masala

1 /2 – 1 tsp chili powder (according to taste)

1 tsp jeera / cumin seeds

1 / 2 cup fresh cream

2 tbsps butter

2 tbsps oil

salt to taste

Preparation:

  • Soak urad dal & rajma overnight.
  • Pressure cook the above with salt and chili powder .
  • Heat oil and butter in a large pan.
  • Add the cumin seeds.Once it crackles, add the onions and fry till translucent.
  • Add the ginger and garlic and fry a few mins.
  • Add the tomatoes and garam masala and cook till the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates from the masala.
  • Add the cooked urad dal and rajma,Mix well and adjust seasoning.
  • Bring to a boil and then simmer a few mins.
  • Add the fresh cream and simmer another 5 mins.
  • Serve hot with parathas.


Tips:

Use canned tomato sauce instead of fresh tomatoes for a rich color.
