Delicious Masoor Dal

This dal is very simple to make and so tasty compared to the effort you put into making it.. This masoor dal preparation goes well with hot chapathis.

Ingredients:

1 cup whole masoor dal / crimson lentils
1 large onion thinly sliced
1 tomato chopped
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 /2 cup fresh chopped coriander/cilantro leaves ( reserve a tbsp for garnish)
1 tsp coriander powder
1 / 4 tsp chili powder
1 pinch turmeric powder
1 / 2 tsp jeera / cumin seeds
3 curry leaves
1 tsp ghee / butter
1 tbsp oil.
salt

Preparation:
  •  
  • Wash and soak masoor dal in water for atleast a couple of hours.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  • Add the jeera and curry leaves .
  • When it crackles add the sliced onions and the ginger garlic paste and fry for a few mins.
  • Add the tomatoes, coriander leaves, turmeric, coriander and chili powders. Mix well and simmer a few mins.
  • Add the dal with sufficient water and salt and pressure cook till soft.
  • When done, top with ghee and coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with paratas or chapathis.

Tips:

Add 1 /2 cup heavy cream in the end to make delicious masoor dal makhani.
