Coconut Masi Sambol

A sambol made with grated coconut & masi (Maldivian fish). Goes well with string hoppers, adai, roti & even in a sandwich!

Ingredients:

2 cups fresh or frozen grated coconut
2 tsp masi or Maldivian fish - powdered
2 dried red chilies
2 small red pearl onions,peeled & chopped
Salt

Preparation:
  • Take grated coconut in a bowl.If frozen, thaw it to room temperature.
  • Lightly roast the dried red chillies over a flame till it is very slightly blackened and gives a strong aroma.
  • Grind the chilies along with the masi in a coffee grinder or mortar & pestle.
  • Add the chili/masi mix ,salt & chopped onions to the grated coconut.
  • Mix well,taste and adjust the salt.

Tips:

  • Add more chilies to make it spicey.
  • Use normal red onions if you do not have pearl onion.
