Crab Masala

This mouth watering crab masala is spicy and full of flavor. Enjoy it with simple white rice.

Ingredients:
 

5 –6 medium size crabs (shell on)
2 onions thinly sliced

6 garlic cloves – minced
1 tsp fresh ginger- finely chopped
2 green chilies
1 tomato chopped
1 small bunch coriander leaves (reserve 1 tbsp for garnish)
1 /2 - 1 tsp tamarind concentrate (add more or less according to taste)
1 /2 tsp turmeric powder
1 / 2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp garam masala
salt
water
2 tbsps oil
 
Preparation:
 
  • Clean the crabs.
  • Heat oil in a large pan.
  • Add the chopped ginger and garlic and fry till it gives a nice aroma.
  • Add the onions with a bit of salt. Cover and let it cook till soft.
  • Add the green chilies, coriander leaves, tomatoes, chili powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Mix well and cook a few mins.
  • Mix the tamarind concentrate with some water. Add it to the pan along with the crabs.
  • Season with salt . Pour in enough water (about 1 cup) .Cover and let it simmer till the crab is cooked.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with white rice.
 
Tips:
 

Do not buy or cook “dead” blue crabs. You can buy blue crabs either raw or cooked in the shell.
