Fish and Chips

These Fish and Chips are so crisp and delicious - always a big hit at home!

Ingredients:

 
Chips:

 
4 potatoes
oil to deep fry
salt to season

 
Fish:

 
1 lb cod – boneless fillets (any firm fish of your choice)
salt to season
2 / 3 cup flour
2/3 cup water
1 /4 tsp chili powder (add more or less according to taste)
1 /2 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp vinegar

 
Preparation:

 
Chips:

 
  • Wash potatoes , leave skin on and cut into ½ inch long stips.
  • Lay them on paper towels to absorb excess moisture.
  • Heat oil and deep fry the potatoes till crisp and golden brown (about 6 – 8 mins).
  • Sprinkle salt and toss .

 
Fish:

 
  • Cut the fish into 2 x 2 inch pieces.Pat them dry and season with salt.
  • Mix the baking soda and vinegar. Add the flour,chili powder, salt and water and mix well to make a thick batter.Dip fish pieces in batter and deep fry them until golden brown turning once. Fry for about 6 mins.Drain on paper towel.
  • Serve the crispy hot Fish 'n Chips with tartar sauce or ketchup!

 
Tips: 

Cut the fish and potatoes into thinner strips if desired.
