Kerala Fish Curry

A simple dish enjoyed by everybody. Try it with mild flavored fishes like Tilapia. I learnt this recipe from my friend Jessie.

A simple dish enjoyed by everybody. Try it with mild flavored fishes like Tilapia.

Ingredients:

2 Tilapia Fillet (cut into 1 inch pieces)
3-4 big Shallots chopped
1 inch Ginger grated
2 cloves of Garlic chopped
1/2 Tsp Chilli Powder
1 1/2 Tbsp Coriander Powder
1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1/4 Tsp Pepper Powder
1/4 Tsp Fenugreek Seed Powder
2 stem Curry Leaves
3 pieces of Kokum (meen puli) soaked in 1/2 cup warm water for 1/2 hr
1 Tbsp Oil
Salt as required



Preparation:

  • In a small bowl mix all powders with 1/2 cup water.
  • Heat oil in a pan.Add garlic and ginger & fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add onion & curry leaves & fry till soft.
  • Add powder mix & kokum pieces along with water.
  • Cook till oil separates.
  • Add the fish pieces & salt.
  • Cook for about 5 minutes in low flame till gravy thickens.
  • Serve hot with Moru curry and white rice.

Tips:

Shallots can be replaced with 1/2 red onion.
