Shrimp / Prawn Masala

A very tasty Prawn / shrimp dish. Goes well with rice and any Indian bread – especially puri.
prawn curry

Ingredients:

1 lb prawn/Shrimp
1 medium onion chopped
1 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tomato chopped
1/4 tsp sombu/fennel seeds
1/2" cinnamon stick
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 sprig curry leaves
Coriander leaves to garnish
1 tblsp oil
salt to taste

 


Preparation:

  • Shell, de-vein, clean and wash the prawns with little bit of turmeric powder.
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add sombu, cinnamon, onion, curryleaves and ginger-garlic paste.
  • Fry till golden brown.
  • Add chopped tomatoes with little salt and cook in low flame for few minutes.
  • To this add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt.
  • Cover and cook till oil floats on top.
  • Now add prawns and salt. Cook till prawn gets coated with the masala.
  • Do not add water.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.



Tips:

 

  • Prawn gets cooked quickly. Over cooked prawn will be hard. You know they are cooked when they turn pink and opaque.
