Grilled Naan

This naan is so good, you will not be disappointed after making! I found this recipe a while ago and have never had to look for another. I hope you like it as much as we do.

Ingredients:

3 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar, divided
1 heaped tablespoon powdered milk
1 large egg, beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 1/2 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional)
1/3 cup butter, melted

Preparation:

  • In a large bowl, stir 1 tablespoon sugar and yeast into warm water and leave 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add remaining sugar, milk powder, egg, salt and enough flour to make a soft, pliable dough.
  • On a floured surface, knead well until smooth and not sticky. Place in an oiled bowl and cover. Allow it to rise for at least 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Deflate dough and gently knead in garlic. Pinch off balls of dough (makes about 8 to 10) and make smooth balls by pulling them and pinching closed on the bottom. Place on a floured tray, cover and allow to rise again, about 30 minutes.
  • Heat a grill to medium. Next to the grill, roll out dough on a lightly floured surface into a thin oval shape. Oil the grill and put dough on the grill. Brush uncooked side with butter. Grill for a minute or so or until golden brown with nice grill marks. Flip over and grill other side, brushing with butter again until browned.
  • Put on a rack and stack the breads on top of each other to keep warm while preparing the rest.

Tips:

1. If you don't have milk powder, reduce the water to 1 cup and use 1/4 cup fresh milk, warmed slightly.
2. If the bread doesn't seem to be cooking fast enough at medium heat, turn up the heat to medium-high.

Ease of preparation: Medium
