Ingredients:

1.5 lbs mutton/lamb medium pieces

1/ 2 a cabbage

2 onions sliced

1 large or 2 small tomatoes chopped

1 tsp ginger garlic paste

6 oz coconut milk

1 ½ - 2 cups water

1 tbsps yogurt

2 tsps coriander powder

1 /2 tsp chili powder (add more according to taste)

1 /4 tsp turmeric powder

1 /2 tsp cumin / jeera powder

3 cardamoms

2 cloves

3 - 2 inch pieces cinnamon stick

1 tbsp mint leaves

salt to taste

1 tbsp oil.

Preparation:

  • Cut the cabbage in chunks - Do not peel layers .Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  • Add the onions with some salt and cook till soft.
  • Add the whole spices and the ginger garlic paste, stir and fry a few mins.
  • Add the tomatoes, coriander, chili, turmeric and cumin powders and cook for 5 mins.
  • Add the mutton, cabbage, yogurt ,mint leaves, salt and water and pressure cook for 5 mins (till meat is cooked depending on your cooker) .
  • Open lid when pressure cooker is ready to be opened, and add the coconut milk.
  • Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 mins. Adjust salt if necessary.
  • Enjoy over rice or with chapathis.

Tips:

Cut cabbage into thick chunks about 4 inches long – remember it is pressure cooked along with the meat and we don’t want the cabbage over cooked by making pieces that are too small and thin.
