The traditional dish made during the Pongal festival - also made for many religious events. This can be an excellent alternative as a dessert to the conventional kheer.
Ingredients:
3/4 Cup Raw rice
1/4 Cup Moong dhal
2 Cardamom
1/2 Cup Jaggery
1 Cup Milk
1 Cup Water + 1/2 Cup for melting jaggery
8 Cashews
10 Raisins
3 Tbsp Ghee
Preparation:
- Pressure cook moong dhal, rice and cardamom in milk and 1 cup water till very soft.
- Meanwhile melt jaggery with 1/2 cup water and strain it.
- Add this to the cooked rice & moong dhal & keep stirring in low flame for about 25 minutes.
- Keep adding ghee little by little in between stirring.
- In a separate pan fry raisins & cashews in 1tbsp ghee
- Pour this over the pongal & serve hot.
