Deep fried balls made of green gram dal, coconut and jaggery.

Ingredients:

For Filling:
4 Cups Whole Green Gram Dal cooked
2 1/2 Cups Jaggery
2 Cups grated Coconut
1/2 Tsp Cardamom Powder

For Batter


1 1/2 Cup All purpose Flour
Little Turmeric Powder
Water as required
A pinch of Salt
Oil to deep fry

Preparation:
  • Heat a sauce pan and melt jaggery by adding 1/2 cup water.
  • Sieve to remove any impurities from jaggery.
  • Return the melted jaggery to the stove and add coconut gratings along with cooked dal and cardamom powder.
  • Keep mixing till all water gets evaporated and the mixture is dry.
  • Cool and make lime size balls.
  • In a bowl make a batter with maida, pinch of salt, turmeric powder and water.(Dosa batter consistency).
  • Heat oil in a pan .
  • Dip each ball in the batter until it is completely covered by the batter and deep fry in hot oil over a medium flame until golden brown in color.
Ease of Preparation: Medium

Tips:
  • Soak green gram dal overnight and cook with enough water over stove top.
  • Do not pressure cook.
  • Green gram dal should retain the shape and not get mushy.
