Balti Potatoes

Potatoes sliced and cooked with simple spices.

Ingredients:

3 large potatoes sliced thin

2 large onions sliced

4 tbsps oil

5 curry leaves

3 dried red chilies

1 /2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds

1 /2 tsp mustard seeds

1 pinch fennel seeds

1 /2 tsp ginger minced

2 garlic cloves minced

1 /4 tsp turmeric powder

1 /4 tsp chili powder

salt to taste

Preparation:

  • Heat oil in a round deep frying pan.
  • Add curry leaves, dried chilies, jeera, mustard, fennel, ginger and garlic.
  • Fry for 1 min.
  • Add the sliced onions and fry till golden brown.
  • Add potatoes ,turmeric powder, chili powder and salt.Mix well.Cover and let it cook till potatoes are tender.
  • Just before turning off the heat, increase heat and cook 1 min till the potatoes get slightly browned.

Tips:

Slice potatoes thinly across, so you get thin circles.
