Peas and Potato masala

A simple peas and potato masala – a tasty side for a vegetarian meal.

Ingredients:

2 medium potatoes cut in cubes
2 cups fresh or frozen green peas
1 large onion sliced
1 /2 tsp fresh minced ginger (optional)
1 small tomato chopped
1 /4 tsp jeera / cumin seeds
1 /4 tsp mustard seeds
1 / 2 tsp chili powder
1 /2 tsp coriander powder
1 /4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 tbsps oil
2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves chopped

Preparation:
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add the cumin and mustard seeds.
  • When it crackles add the onions and ginger with some salt .Cook till translucent.
  • Add the tomatoes, chili, coriander and turmeric powder.
  • Mix well, cover and let it simmer a few mins.
  • Add the potatoes and peas and stir around. Add more salt if necessary.
  • Cover and let it cook till soft – about 15 – 20 mins.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve with hot chapathis.
