Vendakkai / Okra Fry

Many people say kids hate vendakkai.But my kids love this dish.

Ingredients:


1.5 lb vendakkai/Okra
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp hing
salt to taste

Seasoning:

1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dhal
2 red chillies broken into small pieces
2 sprigs curry leaves


Preparation:

  • Wash & dry vendakkai on a towel.
  • Cut it into 1/4 inch pieces.
  • Heat 2tblspn of oil in a pan & add seasonings.
  • When mustard pops,add vendakkai, hing & turmeric powder.
  • Cook in low heat stirring occasionally.
  • Once its 3/4th cooked add salt.
  • Cook till its done.
  • This dish goes very well with rice & rasam.

Tips:

Make sure vendakkai is dried completely. otherwise it will be sticky.
Broken red chillies can be replaced by chilli powder.
Left over fried vendakkai can be added for making sambar or mor kolumbu or puli kolumbu.
