Masala Kolumbu

Ingredients:

4 small Brinjal sliced

1/2 Cup cooked Black Channa

1 Onion chopped

1 Tomato chopped

1/2 Tsp Tamarind Paste

1/2" Cinnamon

2 Cloves

1/4 Tsp Sombu/Fennel Seeds

1/4 Cup Coconut gratings

1 Tsp Sambar Powder

2 Tsp Oil

Salt to taste




Preparation:

  • Grind coconut,sombu & sambar powder to a smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in a saucepan,add cinnamon,cloves & sombu.Fry for few seconds.
  • Add onion & fry till golden brown.
  • Add tomatoes & little salt.Cover & cook in low flame.
  • Mash it with a laddle.
  • Now add sliced brinjal & fry for few minutes.
  • After that add the black channa, ground paste,puli paste & water
  • Bring it to a boil & cook in low flame till oil floats on top of the kolumbu.


Tips:


Brinjal & black channa can be replaced with okra or drumsticks or potatoes.
