Matar Paneer

The classic peas and paneer dish, that is the perfect combination of - sweetness from the peas,rich buttery taste of the paneer and spices from the tomato gravy. It is definitely a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

300 gms paneer cut in cubes

400 gms green peas (fresh or frozen)

2 medium onions

4 oz tomato sauce or 2 medium tomatoes pureed

1 inch piece fresh ginger minced

½ tsp chili powder

½ tsp coriander powder

¾ tsp garam masala

oil

salt to taste

Preparation:

  • Heat oil in a saucepan.Add the chopped onions,salt and ginger and fry till the onion is translucent.
  • Add the tomato puree.When it begins to boil, add the chili,coriander and garam masala powders.Mix well and check seasoning. Cover and let it cook for about 5 mins.
  • Now add the peas and about 1/2 cup of water,cover and cook till peas are tender.
  • Add in the paneer cubes ,cover and let it simmer a few mins before turning off the heat.
  • Serve hot with naan,chapathis, rice or even bread!

Tips:
  1. Fry the paneer cubes if desired.
  2. Add a tbsp of coconut powder dissolved in a little water when you add the paneer cubes .Gives a nice twist to the dish.
