More Kolumbu / Buttermilk Curry

Ingredients:

1 cup thick curd
1/2 cup cut okra or white pumpkin
1/8 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste

For grinding:

1 tsp rice
1 tsp channa dhal(kadala paruppu)
1/4 cup coconut
1/2 tsp jeera
2 green chillies or 1 red chillies
Small piece ginger

For seasoning:

1 1/2 tsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard
1 sprig curry leaves
1 red chillies broken

Preparation:

  • In a pan boil the vegetable with salt & turmeric powder.
  • Soak rice & channa dhal for half hour & grind with coconut, jeera, green chillies & ginger.
  • Add this to the vegetable & cook for few minutes.
  • Beat the curd with 1 cup water & salt.
  • Add this curd mix to the vegetable.
  • Immediately reduce the flame to low & cook till kolumbu is warm.
  • Turn off the heat & add the seasoning.
Tips:

Make sure not to over cook this dish; otherwise it may curdle.
If you are adding okra, fry it in little oil before adding it to the curry.
