Olan is a traditional Kerala dish which is prepared with 3 main ingredients white pumpkin,black-eyed peas & coconut milk.

Ingredients:

2 Cups White Pumpkin diced
1/4 Cup Black-eyed Peas
1 Cup thin Coconut Milk
1/3 Cup thick Coconut Milk
2-3 Green Chillies sliced
2 sprig Curry Leaves
Salt to taste


Preparation:

  • Soak black-eyed peas overnight & pressure cook it with salt & water until soft.
  • In a sauce pan, cook pumpkin pieces in thin coconut milk along with green chillies, curry leaves & salt.
  • When the gravy thickens, add thick coconut milk & bring it to a boil.
  • Serve with rice.

Tips:

Black-eyed peas can be pressure cooked without soaking overnight.
