Paneer Butter Masala

This is definitely the most popular paneer dish in any restaurant.Soft paneer cubes cooked in a creamy onion ,tomato gravy.It is pretty easy to get the 'restaurant taste & look' at home, with this simple recipe.

Ingredients:

300 gms paneer

2 onions

1 -6oz can tomato sauce or 3 tomatoes pureed

1 tsp fresh ,chopped ginger

2 tsp-fresh chopped garlic

6-cashewnuts

1 tsp red chili powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

3/4 tsp cumin powder

1/2 tsp sugar

1/2 cup milk

1 capsicum/green pepper cut in cubes

1 large onion ,quartered

orange food color (as needed)

Oil

Butter-4 tbsp

Salt

Preparation:

  • Cut paneer into cubes.
  • Heat oil & cook the onion ,ginger and garlic with chili powder and a little salt till translucent.
  • Puree the cooked onions in a blender/processor along with the cashewnuts.
  • Pour the puree into a sauce pan & heat.
  • Add the tomato sauce/pureed tomatoes and cook for a few mins.
  • Add the cumin powder,garam masala,salt,sugar and milk & cook till the gravy becomes thick & the masala smell is gone.Add the orange food color and mix well.
  • In another pan, heat butter & cook the cut capsicum & onions till 3/4 done.
  • Add the vegetables & paneer pieces to the orange gravy and cook for a few minutes.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro/coriander.
  • Serve with hot parathas or ghee rice.

Tips:
Make this dish with the plain paneer(home made or store bought) not the fried paneer.

Hanee....my cousin and I experimented with the paneer butter masala and chix szechuan recipes...they turned out fantastic....we had fun cooking and the recipes were so easy to follow! Love this site....
